Last year I shared I was going to start adopting a word of the year and I picked my own word. Just days before the New Year, I hadn’t started thinking about my word for 2019. I’m not normally one to take online quizzes, but when I received a Christian based “what’s your word of the year” quiz on December 28, it caught my attention and reminded me to think about this. I liked the idea of being prompted to think through what I wanted out of 2019 and to hopefully get a word that reflected that, maybe something I wouldn’t think of myself. So I took the quiz.
My resulting word was “delight.” This certainly was a word I would not have come up with on my own and at first I wasn’t sure about it.
Delight as a verb means to please greatly or as a noun means great pleasure. Interestingly, delight is a synonym for “joy,” my chosen word in 2018.
I also explored delight in Biblical terms. I believe to delight yourself in the Lord, means to find your greatest joy in Him. Delight can be found a number of times in the Bible, frequently in Psalms. A couple of those verses really spoke to me.

If you have read my posts over the last year, you probably can see that I have this building desire to find great pleasure in the little things, to learn to be appreciative of everything, and to dig deeper personally. While I wouldn’t have thought of it on my own, I love that my answers led me to this word and how fitting it is.
